"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God..."

- Ephesians 2:8

Thank you for visiting our website. I am blessed to serve as the Senior Pastor of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne, and I am thankful for the opportunity to tell you about our congregation.

pastor-tom-eggold Pastor Thomas A Eggold

The mission of Emmanuel is the mission Christ gave His Church in the last chapter of Matthew when He said, "go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the Name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you" (Matthew 28:19-20).

Emmanuel Lutheran Church is a community of baptized Christians bound together in the forgiveness which God has provided all people through His Son. We exist to announce this gift of forgiveness to individuals of all nations and cultures through the preaching and teaching of God's Word and the administration of the Sacraments. Emmanuel instructs young and old according to the confessional standard of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, and reaches out through forgiving relationships, working to connect people through caring friendships. Emmanuel serves as shepherds of the sheep, seekers of the lost, friends of sinners, and caregivers to the poor, lonely and broken-hearted. It is a family which cares for all people and reaches out to witness to the love and forgiveness found in Jesus Christ.

Ultimately we are a collection of broken sinners who gather around and cling to the promises that God has given through His Son, Jesus Christ. Our congregation exists solely by God's grace. And with thankful and humble hearts, we live and work together in the light of God's Word, committed to sharing His message of Good News with all who will hear. If you are interested in finding out more about this unique Christian community, I would love to talk with you. In Christ,

Pastor Thomas A Eggold

"Because God has already laid the only foundation of our fellowship, because God has bound us together in one body with other Christians in Jesus Christ, long before we entered into common life with them, we enter into that common life not as demanders but as thankful recipients. We thank God for what He has done for us. We thank God for giving us brothers and sisters who live by His call, by His forgiveness, and His promise. We do not complain of what God does not give us; we rather thank God for what He does give us daily. If we do not give thanks daily for the Christian fellowship in which we have been placed, even where there is no great experience, no discoverable riches, but much weakness, small faith, and difficulty; if on the contrary we keep complaining to God that everything is so paltry and petty, so far from what we expected, then we hinder God from letting our fellowship grow according to the measure of riches which there are for us all in Christ Jesus."

– Dietrich Bonhoeffer, Life Together
